Imagine... a multipurpose facility designed to

  • hold events that benefit Montessori School of Evergreen (MSE) students and teachers
  • inspire creativity and learning
  • challenge a child’s physical and athletic skills
  • host professional musicians and performers
  • strengthen our school’s sense of community

A multipurpose facility is the major missing component of our beautiful Marshdale campus. When we surveyed our faculty about their priorities to improve our school, having a gym/theatre facility came in first place, above higher salaries and better benefits. Currently, the lack of an indoor, multifunctional space challenges our ability to have:

  • Musical, theatre and chorale performances
  • Sports programs
  • School assemblies, graduations, Interest Fair, History Fair and Mentorship Night
  • On campus physical education program
  • Teacher and parent seminars and in-services

Vision

Our vision is to erect a 4000 square foot building at the Marshdale campus with such features as:

  • Permanently raised stage
  • Lighting and sound system
  • Open court for basketball, volleyball and other sports activities
  • Climbing wall
  • Drop down screen for viewing audiovisual presentations
  • Storage for athletic equipment and theatrical props

Give the gift of production and performance

When students perform their musical or theatre productions, MSE pays hefty fees to rent performance space from a local church. If the performance is at school, parents and teachers spend hours disassembling a classroom to erect a temporary stage. The performance space is less than ideal for both the audience and performers.

Imagine... students involved in a musical or theatre production complete with lighting, a soundboard, permanent curtain and backstage with changing rooms right on our own campus. The entire audience will have a great view.

Give the gift of athletics and movement

Not having a gym space limits MSE students’ opportunity to participate in school related sports, physical education and indoor recess activities. Currently we transport students to The Evergreen Recreation Center located 5 miles away, two afternoons per week so they can have an authentic physical education experience. If children cannot go outside due to inclement weather, there is inadequate room to safely encourage active movement.

Imagine... children playing basketball and other sports in their own space rather than being bussed off campus or forced into a crowed classroom. Students could laugh, jump, dance and play in a facility that encourages movement.

Give the gift of knowledge and culture

For school assemblies, sometimes more time and effort must be made to rearrange a classroom to make space for everyone to fit in than is spent on the content of the assembly.

Imagine... one large space to hold Interest and History Fairs, Mentorship Night and Graduation. The Colorado Symphony would have a stage to perform a concert or an author could take part in a book reading for our students, thus further integrating the arts into the curriculum and cultivating art appreciation.

Give the gift of information and development

When MSE hosts educational speakers for parents and teachers, space is limited and much time is required to move classrooms around to make adequate space for these seminars.

Imagine... the full 52-member faculty holding meetings, viewing videos, listening to speakers and holding events that would further their professional training. Family members could attend parenting classes and listen to experts in child development in a comfortable environment.
